Idiopathic Hypersomnia Awareness Week® (IHAW) is an annual initiative hosted by Hypersomnolence Australia. It is held every year in the first full week of September to promote and raise awareness of the sleep/wake disorder Idiopathic Hypersomnia. IHAW unites the efforts of partner organisations worldwide.

We encourage public and private sector organisations to partner with us to promote awareness of Idiopathic Hypersomnia during IHAW.

By registering, your organisation joins a global partnership committed to educating the public about Idiopathic Hypersomnia.

IHAW partners agree to:

Share the free IHAW campaign materials via your website and social media.

Include the IHAW logo when promoting your activities.

Share the IHAW “Proud Partner” banner. This image will include the logos of all of our partners.

Organise an IHAW event, or project or provide resources that can be used during IHAW eg: write an article appropriate to the theme of the current IHAW.

Why become an IHAW partner?

IHAW provides a wonderful opportunity to place your organisation’s work in the public spotlight. By joining us in promoting IHAW, you can:

Increase your visibility and advance your mission within the broader context of a global education and awareness raising initiative.

Raise awareness of the importance of helping people with Idiopathic Hypersomnia lead healthier, more productive lives.

Provide the public and the medical community with knowledge and information in a target driven educational campaign.

Encourage the support for more research into disorders of Hypersomnolence and inspire the next generation of scientists to explore this under discovered area of sleep medicine.

Our commitment to IHAW Partners:

IHAW Partners will be listed on our IHAW Partners page, with a link back to your organisation’s website. We will also promote your IHAW event, activity or project on our website and the IHAW social media (Facebook, Twitter and Instagram).

We can guarantee that your organisations commitment to the IHAW will be seen by thousands of people worldwide. By the conclusion of the 2016 IHAW the IHAW Facebook page had reached over 40,000 people since it was launched in June that year (just 12 weeks!), almost 30,000 of them were reached during the seven days of our awareness week! The posts are still regularly viewed and shared as we continue to keep the page alive throughout the year (raising awareness is a 365 days a year commitment to us!). The Hypersomnolence Australia website had almost 20,000 unique visitors (individual people, not the same person visiting it over and over) in that same period (since June 2016 when we started promoting the awareness week untilthe end of the event). That is nothing short of miraculous considering our website is actually quite primitive (and why we are desperately fund raising for a new one!) These results are huge for a sleep/wake disorder that most people, including doctors have never heard of. So if you are as passionate about raising awareness of Idiopathic Hypersomnia as we are join us!
